Instruction support services provided by the Social Sciences Librarian help you as faculty members find quality course materials that fit your class, integrate information literacy and research inquiry skills into your courses and enhance expertise on the research process and using the library resources and services.
Course-integrated Instruction
The Social Sciences Librarian would work with teaching faculty to enhance students’ critical inquiry and research skills by providing additional support around course projects such as finding library materials and developing vital skills related to identifying, locating, and evaluating information and understanding the research process.
The Social Sciences Librarian can partner with faculty members to create custom learning experiences for in-person, synchronous, or asynchronous library instruction, and develop a course-specific research guide.
Collaborating with Social Sciences Librarian will help your students develop research-related skills such as learning how to use library-based research resources, conducting effective searches, selecting and evaluating appropriate sources for academic research, and giving them an understanding of how information and research are used in scholarship.
There are several ways that the Social Sciences Librarian can collaborate with faculty:
Class Visits and Curriculum Integration
The Social Sciences Librarian is available to visit your class in-person, in Zoom, or in Canvas. I can tailor library instruction to a specific assignment, or give a general overview of library services. I am also available to partner with faculty members in integrating information literacy and critical inquiry skills into your curriculum – including research-centered classes. In particular, I can assist with developing assignments or activities that teach critical thinking and source-analysis skills. Finally, I can create online tutorials and course guides with class-specific tools and resources to maximize student success in the research process. These guides can be integrated into your Canvas courses.
