Whether you’re an industry professional or a current educator looking to add your CTE certification, our newly redesigned program makes earning your certification easier than ever.

• You must have either have 6,000 hours (3 years) of industry experience or 2,000 hours (1 year) of industry experience PLUS 4,000 hours of teaching or for STEM all 6000 hours of teaching. 
  • Please review the requirements with Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to make sure that you are eligible to obtain CTE certification through the CTE Plan 2 Business & Industry route : Visit OSPI’s website for the CTE Plan 2 Business and Industry Route requirements.
  • Please also review OSPI’s website for the CTE Plan 2 V-Codes.
• You must have completed or scheduled your Basic Skills Testing before admission approval.
• Complete the CTE Plan 2 Application Form

Basic Skills Test

• All students must submit a Basic Skills Assessment (WEST-B) or an approved equivalent test for admission to a CTE Teacher Preparation Program as per RCW 28A.410.220.
• A passing score is NOT required.
• Additional information regarding basic skills and approved equivalent tests can be found through the State of Washington Professional Educator Standards Board (wa.gov).

Note on SAT and ACT Tests: If you took the SAT prior to 2005 or the ACT prior to 2008, you will need to complete the full WEST-B: Reading, Writing, Mathematics test, as your scores may no longer be available from the respective testing agencies.

Approved equivalent assessments: ACT, SAT, CBEST, PRAXIS I, PRAXIS CORE, THEA, NES, CASA, GACE, and the MoGEA

• If you do not already hold a teaching certification you will have to complete or show proof of completion of Washington State History or PNW History course.
• You will need to provide an up to date First Aid/AED/CPR certificate.

• *CTED 326 – Foundations of CTE Instruction (30 hrs.) ($600) *waivable with proof of Issues of Abuse or School Law
• *CTED 342 – Advanced Instructional Techniques of CTE (30 hrs.) ($600) *waivable if already hold initial teaching certificate       
• *CTED 426 – Course Organization and Curriculum Development (40 hrs.) ($800) *waivable with 5-years competency-based CTE teacher evidence
• CTED 470 – Coordination Techniques of CTE (40 hrs.) ($800) 
• CTED 485 – CTE Practicum (10 hrs.) ($200)
• CTED 492 – CTE Portfolio (10 hrs.) ($200)
