Learn how to engage K-12 students in authentic scientific inquiry

Want to engage your future K-12 students in scientific research in the classroom?

In CREST, you won’t just participant in scientific research, you’ll learn how to lead research experiences for K-12 students. Students learn science more effectively when they ‘do science’. CREST will have activities that help participants learn what science is and how to make science more understandable to K-12 students. We’ll introduce future science teachers to inquiry-based teaching practices and engage participants in inquiry activities adapted from scientific research. CREST leaders and research mentors will help participants adapt their own research into activities they could use during student teaching and their future classrooms.

Support in teaching through inquiry will include 1) activities that introduce what inquiry-based science teaching is; 2) experience leading inquiry-based activities; and 3) guidance that helps participants adapt their research projects into educational activities. CREST leaders will connect participants with local secondary science teachers to improve and refine the educational products. We will maintain a repository of CREST activities that participants can access and use in their future classrooms.
