What is a Writing Fellow?

If you are interested in working closely with a Responder (a writing consultant), you will want to join our fellow program. In this program, you will be paired with a Responder who has expertise with Canvas, writing and learning theory, knowledge of campus resources, and a strong desire to help students be successful in college.

The Responder will provide you an additional level of support. The writing fellow will serve as mentors/coaches as you develop or expand your writing and communication skills. The Responder will work with you so that you thrive in college. Thriving means going beyond the minimum requirements to meet and even exceed your educational goals. Thriving is your discovery of talents and abilities you didn't know you had, or it is about growing as learners and deriving the maximum amount of excitement, self-satisfaction, and pleasure from learning and writing.

Depending on who you are, your life situation, and your reason for enrolling, pursuing a college degree can mean different things. Whatever led you here, college can be a time when you take risks, learn new things, connect with a community of learners, and set goals for yourself. By requesting a writing fellow, you can enter a supportive environment with people who will help you thrive so that you become the person you want to be, become the writer you want to be.
