Three Poems by Laurie Lamon<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

This Poem Doesn’t Care That It Isn’t a Sonnet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This poem doesn’t care about the movie Avatar<\/em>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

dosen’t care about IPods or Notebooks or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the divorce of reality from reality; it isn’t<\/p>\n\n\n\n

thinking of animal shelters, three million plus<\/p>\n\n\n\n

deaths per year; this poem isn’t thinking<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of oil or children or ice melting with climate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that is here or not here; this poem has nothing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to do with the bodies of women which have<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ceased to move on cots or sidewalks; this poem<\/p>\n\n\n\n

doesn’t know the legal age of marriage for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

girls in Ethiopia, Sir Lanka, Saudi Arabia etc.;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

it has stopped looking for the name of the one<\/p>\n\n\n\n

killed in a bus by a bomb, in a car by a sniper,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

on the path by a tripwire, in a house, in a crib.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This poem isn’t waiting for pain’s reprieve,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for grief to pack up its tools for another heart’s<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pale. It is hungry for milk, for the messages<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of pillow and sheet; it wants the drowse<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of the  egg in the open nest, a plain thing, in-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

effable brim of shade, yellow apples ripening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pain Thinks of Black<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is damage the body<\/p>\n\n\n\n

remembers–<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

a snowy landscape<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pain swept with one hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pain Thinks of Still Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

without landscape black beneath<\/p>\n\n\n\n

white without wind without interuption<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pain thinks of still life without charcoal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

& seeds without burnish & soil Pain thinks<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of iris lapis lazuli light without leaf<\/p>\n\n\n\n

without breath Pain thinks of still life<\/p>\n\n\n\n

without eternity meeting the air<\/p>\n\n\n\n
