Myomectomy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the center of the dark<\/p>\n\n\n\n

room an aureole: there,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pricked at the wrists<\/p>\n\n\n\n

by IV cords, robed except for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the waist, my body<\/p>\n\n\n\n

lay reposed and bleeding<\/p>\n\n\n\n

like the inverse of the child-\u00ad<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God, my body left<\/p>\n\n\n\n

open like a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They entered, innominate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

doctors, their hands blue<\/p>\n\n\n\n

as sky slipping through that oculus<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to retrieve what had taken root-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

it resembled a pomegranate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

when lifted into view, ruddy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

globe cradled by two hands, fruit<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of the dead-but it was not<\/p>\n\n\n\n

dead, nor was I, I was still<\/p>\n\n\n\n

living, that bright vermillion<\/p>\n\n\n\n

my proof-and so, like me,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

they split my womb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

right down the middle, the wound<\/p>\n\n\n\n

precise. And from beneath<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the tumor emerged, eager, as if to be<\/p>\n\n\n\n

born-bald creature with no father<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and no future. Savior of no one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
