program&nbsp;is available to active duty, National Guard, and Reserve Component service members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">All service members interested in using TA must contact their <strong>Education Service Officer (ESO)<\/strong> or <strong>Education Counselor<\/strong> located on base at the Education Center within their branch of service prior to enrolling in any your course enrollment, you may be required to develop an education plan or complete an orientation. You need to receive approval from your ESO to use TA before you enroll in a course.&nbsp; TA is available for courses that are part of an approved academic degree or certificate program. The courses must be offered by schools that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and are signatories to the current DoD Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (DOD href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Apply to Eastern Washington University<\/span><\/a>. Once you receive your acceptance letter from EWU, it is important to review the next steps as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/admitted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">admitted student<\/span><\/a>. Contact&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/veterans\/contact-us\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EWU\u2019s Veterans Resource Center<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;with any questions during this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-07ca075767fe4f2d01b3fee363acc9b5\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 1 <br><strong>Request Tuition Assistance<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Request TA from your command. Discuss with military supervisor; commander approval is often needed. Meet with an Education Services Officer or a military education counselor&nbsp;to receive information on Military Tuition Assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If using TA alongside&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/education\/about-gi-bill-benefits\/montgomery-selected-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Montgomery Selected Reserve CH 1606<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/education\/about-gi-bill-benefits\/post-9-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Post 9\/11 GI Bill CH33<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;you will also need to provide a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)&nbsp;to the EWU Veterans Resource Center Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-02c6767f8a9752f2c223f6be7ba418c8\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 2 <br><strong>Student Education Plan<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Schedule an appointment with an EWU academic counselor to prepare a student education plan before enrolling in any classes. Your counselor will help guide you through the process of selecting your major and educational path. You may also use&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/records-and-registration\/degree-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Degree Works<\/span><\/a> to prepare you with this process. You may need this to upload into your particular TA Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cd650346f9a7d57a1c87021e36aba2d9\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 3 <br><strong>Register for Classes<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Register for classes based upon your education plan and required classes. The program provides education opportunities to qualified service members and serves as an incentive to extend their National Guard service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants commit to serving one year in the Washington National Guard in exchange for each year of grant funding. Combined with state and federal aid, grants can cover tuition and fees at approved colleges in Washington, as well as a portion of books and materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those interested are encouraged to reach out to their education office or recruiter for more information on good standing with the Washington National Guard.
