{"id":35892,"date":"2026-05-17T02:26:49","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T09:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/sa-sandbox\/?page_id=35892"},"modified":"2026-07-31T13:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T20:11:10","slug":"ten-steps-to-enrollment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/veterans\/ten-steps-to-enrollment\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Steps to Enrollment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6111205eaf6d2a6edd5cd2aa709e5d04\"><strong>Enroll<\/strong> and Receive <strong>Benefits<\/strong> at EWU<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:1.13rem\">Follow these 10 steps to become a student at EWU and receive your benefits!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f546d9844b6b54a03364205f6c747bd1\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 1 <br><strong>Apply for Your VA Education Benefit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The official Dept. of Veterans Affairs&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Educational Benefits (VA.gov)<\/span><\/a> website lets you compare benefits and decide which one is best for you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/education\/how-to-apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">VA online application<\/span><\/a>. Select EWU as your school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in the mail from the VA in approximately 30 days after you apply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the EWU VRC Office by email or in person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue your EWU enrollment process while waiting for your Certificate of Eligibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f71f2fd25da5d43af105446df6cbc1fe\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 2 <br><strong>Apply to Eastern Washington University<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Freshman:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/Apply\/freshman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ewu.edu\/Apply\/freshman<\/span><\/a><br>Transfer:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/Apply\/transfer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ewu.edu\/Apply\/transfer<\/span><\/a><br>Graduate:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/Apply\/graduate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ewu.edu\/Apply\/graduate<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is a $60 application fee for UG and $75 application fee for Graduate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will need to&nbsp;request official transcripts&nbsp;from all colleges you have attended be sent to EWU Admissions, 304&nbsp;Sutton Hall, Cheney, WA 99004.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include all official military transcripts. Requests via online websites at:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jst.doded.mil\/jst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Joint Services Transcripts (JST)<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airuniversity.af.edu\/Barnes\/CCAF\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Transcripts<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are a transfer student with less than 40 transferrable credits you will be asked to submit official high school transcript. A letter of recommendation from a supervisor can be submitted in lieu of the test scores if you have been out of high school more than five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6aaa2f7d7c4727ea831d8ec9e6e34640\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 3 <br><strong>Receive Email Verifying Receipt of Your Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This email is sent out within a week after an application is submitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It will contain important information about your next steps to set up your Eagle accounts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A follow up letter will be sent to you via mail listing any missing paperwork still required to complete the processing of your admissions application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3c3a31b90c08b8717e1dce3bca9f8a87\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 4 <br><strong>Receive Admissions Acceptance Letter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These letters are mailed out 2-5 weeks after all transcripts are received, the application is complete, and you are admitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm your admission by navigating to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/admitted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EWU admitted students<\/span><\/a> webpage. Confirm you will attend by following the directions provided. This includes paying the one-time New Student Enrollment Fee of $275&nbsp;<em>ONLY for Undergraduate Admissions.<\/em>&nbsp;For Post 9\/11 GI Bill students, this fee will be reported with first term fees to VA for reimbursement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-872526d0d78cb4082f7206f79ce5b842\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 5 <br><strong>Academic Advising<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Academic Advising is required for all incoming students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After you have been admitted and you confirm enrollment, contact the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/advising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Center for Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR)<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;at 509-359-2345 to schedule an advising appointment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During your appointment with an advisor, you will discuss your plans, progress so far, and next steps to register for classes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-88fed6f79c29c385756ce81685cd6823\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 6 <br><strong>EWU Veterans Benefits<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Email or bring a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility and class schedule to the&nbsp;EWU Veterans Resource Center. The center is located at the main campus in Showalter Hall, 1st floor, Room 122.&nbsp; Phone number is (509) 359-7040.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notify the EWU Veterans Resource Center whenever you register for classes or change your schedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Register\/enroll as early as possible because last minute enrollments hold up the VA notification benefits process, which can potentially delay your benefits\/stipend.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6164e0ebd24aa2fb2733a8771342d29a\" style=\"font-size:20px\">Step 7 <br><strong>Financial Aid\/Scholarships<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/financial-aid-scholarships-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Financial Aid Office<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;is located at the main campus in Sutton Hall, first floor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)<\/span><\/a>. Remember to apply even if you are receiving benefits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can submit the FAFSA annually beginning October 1 and February 1 is the priority deadline for the FAFSA to be submitted to the Federal Government.&nbsp; EWU school code is&nbsp;003775.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are some <strong>scholarships<\/strong> specifically for veterans. Be sure to complete the online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/financial-aid-scholarships-office\/types-of-financial-aid\/scholarships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EWU Scholarship application<\/span><\/a>. The EWU Scholarship applications annually become available by November 1 and have a final deadline the following February 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ewu-red-color
