Recycling/Waste Management is essential to how students experience our campus, yet the work is done mainly behind the scenes to keep EWU clean, safe, and sustainable.
Recycling/Waste Management implements sustainability into their daily operations by managing our waste responsibly, this includes avoiding wasting resources, recovering compost from Dining Services, emptying the trash from every building on campus, and maintaining full-service recycling. They want to further implement sustainable practices by promoting composting and recycling throughout campus. Our recycling program is so well-run here at EWU that profits from recycled materials go back into the department to help offset costs.
Not only does Recycling/Waste Management take care of the campus waste, but they manage trucking services for the campus as well. This includes moving offices, deliveries, and setting up the stages, chairs, and altering the event space for all the events happening on campus.
We can reduce the amount of waste we create by reducing the conveniences in our lives. Reusing rather than purchasing disposable or single-use items makes an instant impact, and it is easy to do. Instead of using plastic bags, bring your own reusable bag. Instead of using single-use plastic, carry your reusable bottle with you. When purchasing new items, research sustainable companies and support them. Simple changes like these can help reduce your environmental impact.
