EWU takes pride in supporting adult learners.
- EWU Student Affairs recently established the new Adult and Lifelong Learner Resource Center (ALLRC). Its mission is to support current and incoming adult learners on their educational journey. The aim of the ALLRC is to function as a “one-stop-shop” for adult learners where they may articulate concerns, access resources, and receive assistance developing success strategies that support their learning goals.
- The Veterans Resource Center is a key source of that pride. Established in 2012 and led by Director Dave Millet, retired Army, the VRC is the premier center for veterans in the Pacific Northwest. Director Millet and his team have crafted a welcoming environment for veterans to connect with one another, access educational technology, and a head to a one-stop shop for answering the questions incoming and current student veterans may have.
- In partnership with the YMCA, EWU provides enrolled students with childcare options through the EWU Children’s Center, located on the Cheney campus. The center accommodates infants (6 weeks) through age 10. Student parents looking for childcare options close to the Spokane campus can consult the Washington State Department of Early Learning for resources on finding a licensed facility and getting help for paying for child care.
- EWU's H.O.M.E. Program (Helping Ourselves Means Education) is an important support system for our students with children. H.O.M.E. provides practical resources for student parents as well as scholarships and childcare grants.
Actually, there are many scholarships available for adult students. There are even scholarships available to adult students in part-time status, for parents, and students who are cancer survivors. Feel free to check out our scholarship page. Be sure to pay close attention to due dates. Remember, you're not limited to just one. Feel free to apply for many! Also, you may want to look into additional external scholarships.
EWU offers multiple resources for reviewing previously earned college credit:
- Prospective students may review their prior courses with an evaluator who will help them determine course equivalencies.
- Equivalencies that have already been verified are reflected in the EWU Transfer Guide.
- EWU has a degree audit system, Degree Works, that allows both students and academic advisors to track progress toward degree completion.
Absolutely! Whether it's family night, movie night, or a comedian on campus, all students are invited to attend.
EWU embraces the philosophy that adult learners have acquired university-level learning through their career experience. Prior Learning participants may be awarded elective credits in an interdisciplinary degree by devoting a portfolio that is evaluated by EWU faculty. Portfolios are prepared during enrollment in the ITDS 300 Portfolio Development course.
