Campus Sexual Assault Victims’ Bill of Rights

The Campus Sexual Assault Victims’ Bill of Rights was signed into law by President George Bush in July of 1992.  This law requires that all colleges and universities (both public and private) participating in federal student aid programs afford sexual assault victims certain basic rights.  Here are those rights:

  • To be safe and free from a hostile environment
  • To be protected from sexual harassment and assault
  • To take legal action when a crime is committed against you
  • To work with police, campus officials and the prosecutor
  • To be notified of counseling and other support services from college or university and local resources
  • To make reasonable changes in academic and living situations
  • To have the same opportunity as the accused to have others present in any disciplinary proceeding
  • To have your name kept private
