2020 WAMS (Wellness and Movement Studies) classes
New Offerings Fall of 2020!!
We just received approval to offer two new WAMS classes for EWU students: Learn to Swim 1 and Learn to Swim 2 (LTS-1, LTS-2). LTS-1 is for beginners who need to get comfortable in the water and learn to be safe in deep water. It will cover Red Cross LTS levels 1-3 approximately. LTS-2 is titled "Learn to Swim Better" and is for students who can swim some, but have remedial skills and need to learn how to swim properly. This class will cover Red Cross levels 4-6 approximately. LTS-2 is a 2-credit class, with 3 written assignments required to obtain the second credit. These courses are open to all EWU students; and will be offered FWS quarters.
The Aquatic Center is now offering blended professional level classes throughout the year, to provide more convenience for EWU Students and the general public. Classes include: Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO). LGT - TBA. 32 hours. 2 year certification for lifeguarding, CPR/AED/1st Aid & Oxygen. $185 for EWU Students; $225 for general public.
WSI - We are trying to move this course to Airway Heights in June. If interested leave Greg an email inquiry at firstname.lastname@example.org. 32 hours. 2 year certification to teach Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes. $185 for EWU Students; $225 for general public. Call to register.
LGI - We are trying to move this course to Airway Heights in June. If interested leave Greg an email inquiry at email@example.com.. 20 hours. 2 year certification to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding course. $150 for EWU Students; $200 for general public. Call to register.
AFO - Call to be placed on a waiting list. Aquatic Facility Operator is a 5 year certification to operate a swimming pool or spa.
Swim Time Students can swim on their own schedule, get fit, and get credit for it! Two options are offered - Swim Time 1, in which 20 hours of swimming, water walking, treading, kicking are logged for 1 credit; Swim Time 2, in which three short papers are required in addition to the 20 hours logged.
Beginning SCUBA Diving - A 1-credit class offered Tuesday/Thursday evenings from 6-10 PM. SCUBA certification is an option for students able to travel to the open water dive. Offered FWS quarters.
