International Travel – Safety and Security for EWU Travelers

Overview

International travel is an integral part of the educational and life experience of the EWU community as is the university’s commitment to the health and safety of all who pursue opportunities abroad.  To that end, EWU has dedicated staff and resources to mitigate foreseeable risks by:

  • Preparing our students/employees for international travel by providing information and guidance that is pertinent to their health and safety
  • Providing comprehensive insurance to provide 24/7 response and support to EWU travelers.

International Travel Requirements

All students, staff and faculty who are traveling internationally on EWU related programs or assignment must:

  1. Enter a travel request into Concur Travel. Concur is the university’s travel management system.  Registering travel in Concur also triggers Travelers Insurance protection with On Call International (see below). More information about travel is on the EWU Travel Accounting website.
  2. Register travel with EWU Global Office (email global@ewu.edu). This registration allows EWU staff to quickly contact travelers in emergency situations.
  3. Review U.S. Department of State Travel Advisories for each travel destination.
  4. Review the Travel Information on this page.

On Call International 24/7 Global Assistance and Insurance Program

All employees and students who are traveling internationally on EWU related programs or assignment are provided with comprehensive travel insurance and services through On Call International.

With On Call, EWU travelers have a 24/7 resource by phone, online, and via a mobile app to help with any medical, security, and logistical questions, concerns, and situations that may arise. If you need a medical referral, seek pre-travel advice, or experience a medical or security crisis, On Call has a fully integrated program in place, through which you receive the care and expertise that you need, whenever and wherever you need it.

All travelers are encouraged to review (and download to their phone) the EWU On Call Program Description.

Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)

All students participating in an education abroad program through EWU are required to enroll in the U.S. Department of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).

All other EWU travelers may also enroll in STEP.  This program is a free service for U.S. citizens and nationals who are traveling or living abroad. STEP allows you to enter information about trips abroad so that the Department of State, via our embassies and consulates, can better assist you in an emergency. You can also subscribe to receive email updates with travel advisories and other information for a particular country.
