{"id":35529,"date":"2024-04-09T13:17:28","date_gmt":"2024-04-09T20:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/pub\/?page_id=35529"},"modified":"2024-04-19T10:13:49","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T17:13:49","slug":"renovation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/pub\/renovation\/","title":{"rendered":"Renovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-16d6d0ca\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<p>In 2015, in response to years of student feedback, ASEWU student government and EWU leaders approved a plan to redesign the Pence Union Building to make it more usable and responsive to the needs of today&#8217;s students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Financed through student fees, the PUB redesign is an approximately $40M project.&nbsp; It uses the existing footprint of the building (~120,000 square feet), focusing the renovation on the areas of highest need and maximum student benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a successful pre-design, construction started in Fall 2016. &nbsp;The project was completed in early 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Project Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To create an open and inviting student center that will define the sense of campus community and become a true hub for student life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop a space that fosters student engagement, retention, and success\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increase student lounge, study and collaboration space<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase and improve space for student leadership, clubs and organizations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase and enhance space for large student events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase and improve student dining space and options, including retail dining choices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transform the PUB into an environmentally-friendly building (with more daylight) and highly visible indoor\/outdoor student activity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Address deferred maintenance issues and safety needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015, in response to years of student feedback, ASEWU student government and EWU leaders approved a plan to redesign the Pence Union Building to make it more usable and responsive to the needs of today&#8217;s students.
