Are you an EWU student interested in a career in law enforcement?

The Eastern Washington University Police Department has an active Police Cadet program that plays a vital role in providing quality police services to our University community. The cadets are full-time college students who work part time between 10 and 19 hours per week. The program allows a student to gain valuable experience working in a law enforcement organization while pursuing educational goals.

This part-time job is designed to develop the skills and abilities of individuals who are interested in pursuing a future career as a sworn Police Officer.

Some of the functions performed by the Police Cadets include parking enforcement, providing directions and assistance to the public, providing assistance and traffic control at special events, locking and unlocking of campus facilities, greeting the public in the Police Department Office, administrative office functions and assisting the public with jump starts and vehicle lock outs.

This program has been highly successful in achieving this goal as previous cadets have been hired at agencies across the state such as:

  • Washington State Patrol
  • Washington State Fish and Game
  • Kootenai County Sheriff's Office
  • WWU Police Department
  • Chelan County Sheriff's Office

We are always interested in qualified individuals who would like to become police cadets. Our hiring periods are during the first part of May just before the end of the spring quarter. However, openings during the school year sometimes occur. Applicants must enjoy working with the public and at times, be able to work in a fast paced environment. In addition to parking enforcement, the cadets conduct many of the administrative functions of the police officers. Applicants may fill out an online application at Handshake. Questions can also be directed to any campus police officer.
