Hundreds of incoming freshmen masked up and took a walk through the pillars that adorn the entrance to the Eastern Washington University campus – celebrating the beginning of their transformational years at Eastern.
The longstanding tradition felt like a reunion of sorts, coming after more than a year of pandemic-inspired stillness on the EWU campus.
Freshmen walked from downtown Cheney, accompanied by the EWU marching band and cheered on by returning students and sorority and fraternity members who lined the sidewalks.
The students passed through the historic stone pillars leading to Showalter Hall to find a welcoming group of EWU faculty and staff, including interim President David May, cheering their arrival.
What a great way to start the academic year!
