Carlos William Castillo-Garsow, PhD, associate professor of Mathematics Education at EWU was featured on the 2019 AMS Lathisms Hispanic Heritage Month Calendar.

Founded in 2016, Lathisms is an organization dedicated to showcasing Latinx and Hispanic contributors to the mathematical sciences in the US. Their work is partially supported by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) through a Tensor SUMMA grant.

Lathisms Honorees are nominated by member users each year and are featured through the calendar and podcasts on the Lathisms website. Past honorees have also been featured in Lathisms articles in the AMS Notices and in Lathisms posters published by the AMS.

Nominees must satisfy the following criteria to be considered as a Lathisms Honoree.

  • Identify as Latinxs and/or Hispanic
  • Demonstrate evidence of a strong commitment to the advancement of Latinx and/or Hispanics in the Mathematical Sciences
  • Have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the Mathematical Sciences in at least one of the following areas: research, teaching, mentoring, and/or service
