In late breaking news, Malek has been\u00a0accepted into the Ph.D. program in Chemical Engineering at Montana State University.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0He was also\u00a0<\/span>selected to receive a 2023-2024 Benjamin Ph.D. Fellowship, plus coverage of tuition\/fees. This is the College of Engineering\u2019s most prestigious award for entering Ph.D. students and Malek&#8217;s selection is a testament to his potential.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>About the Fellowship:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The award has been made possible by the generous donation of Mr. Benjamin to the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering through an estate gift and represents our efforts to encourage enrollment of highly talented students.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Malek graduated from EWU in Fall Quarter, double majoring in Biology with Biotech Option and Physics along with a minor in Organic Chemistry. His research focus was working with Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)\/Cas systems to manipulate genomes and study their effects. With\u00a0EWU Faculty Research Mentor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/experts\/jason-ashley\/\">Dr. Jason Ashley<\/a>, Malek&#8217;s 2022 Summer Research Project was titled<em> Influence of Fringe Glycosyltransferases on Osteoclastogenesis<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We know that Malek will be a bright presence in this program, with his broad range of interests and critical and creative thinking skills!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to McNair Scholar\u00a0Malek Chreiki!
