She first inspected the articles for instances of the terms Africa, African, African-American, Hoodoo, and Conjure. She found that Indigenous African and African diaspora religious traditions, such as Hoodoo and Conjure, were not mentioned in any of the 129 articles.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Before beginning the study, Christina proposed:<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Observing these gaps [in inclusion of Indigenous African and African diaspora religious traditions in peer reviewed religious studies journals] would highlight the ways in <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">which the current survey of world religions within higher education can be expanded. Doing so <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">may allow for a more accurate depiction of the contributions of African cultures to world <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">religions. This will also help to reshape education in such a way that better tells the story of <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">human development, cultural exchange, and interconnectedness.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>Christina\u00a0is interested in decolonizing religious studies with a focus on ancient African religious texts, with the intention of shifting the way we view the contributions of people of color to the development of civilization throughout history.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Christina will be presenting at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/southwestpca.org\"><strong>43rd Annual Southwest Popular\/American Culture Association Conference<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in February 2022. She is a <a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/mcnair\/ewu-mcnair-scholar-christina-hudson-contributes-to-blackpast-org\/\"><strong>regular contributor<\/strong><\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackpast.org\/author\/christina-hudson\/\"><strong>BlackPast.org<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and the recipient of the <a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/mcnair\/ewu-mcnair-scholar-christina-hudson-awarded-robert-and-joan-morgan-nelson-scholarship\/\"><strong>Robert and Joan Morgan Nelson Scholarship<\/strong><\/a>, which\u00a0benefits a History or Humanities Major at EWU.\u00a0Christina\u00a0is currently applying to graduate programs at several schools.
