Congratulations to McNair Scholar\u00a0Tiago Correia<\/a>! Tiago has been accepted to University of Washington’s Master of Science in Mathematics<\/a>. UW’s program offers a thesis and non-thesis option, only admitting a selective, small cohort each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiago Correia<\/strong> is a first-generation, low-income student working towards a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at Eastern Washington University. His research interests are in group theory and topology. He plans to one day attend a PhD program in mathematics. After that, he aims to do postdoctoral research and become a professor at an R1 institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 2023, Tiago attended a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Central Washington University (CC-REU)<\/a>. While there, he worked with the mathematical biology group under the guidance of Dr. Brandy Wiegers<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong>He and his group presented their research at the end of the summer, entitled \u201cAn Androgen-Dependent Mathematical Model of the Menstrual Cycle\u201d<\/em>.
