Congratulations to new McNair Scholar Vanessa Sanchez<\/a>! Vanessa was selected by the McNair Scholars’ selection committee on the basis of her passion for research, commitment to attaining a PhD, and overall potential for success in graduate school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The federally-funded TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program at EWU selects motivated and talented juniors and seniors who are first-generation and low-income college students, and\/or from groups underrepresented at the doctoral level to introduce them to academic research and provide them with effective strategies for getting into and graduating from PhD programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanessa Sanchez is an Honors Student<\/a> at Eastern Washington University double majoring in Data Science and Data Analytics with a minor in Economics. She is a part of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) club<\/a> on EWU’s campus, including participating in the Hackathon in 2024.<\/a> Her research interests include issues of equity and how data science can be applied to improve resource allocation on both the micro and macro scale. Vanessa’s goal is to attain her PhD and further inspire other women to pursue higher education. She will conduct her 2024 McNair Summer Research Internship alongside her EWU faculty research mentor, Dr. Kelley Cullen<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
