Congratulations to McNair Scholar Sylvia Kennerly<\/a>,\u00a0who has been accepted to the University of Kansas Medical Center Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences<\/a> (IGPBS), with full funding. IGPBS is a PhD first-year program allowing students to complete core curriculum before determining their PhD program through faculty mentor alignment<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IGPBS’ interdisciplinary nature is clearly demonstrated by eclectic program inclusions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New students seeking a graduate research discipline in one of the seven Basic Science Departments (Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology & Physiology, Microbiology, Pathology and Pharmacology\/Toxicology) and the Neuroscience Graduate Program first enter into the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (IGPBS).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sylvia Kennerly<\/strong> is an aspiring researcher Graduating this Spring 2024 with a Bachelors in Biochemistry from Eastern Washington University. Sylvia engaged in a research project with Dr. Burgis<\/a><\/strong> in winter quarter of 2023 exploring the expression of variant ITPase on human neuron cells. For her 2023 summer research internship, she worked with mentor Dr. Jason Ashley <\/a><\/strong>investigating specific pathways affecting osteoclasts. As a student with strong interest in pursuing a career in biochemistry, Sylvia has set her sights on earning a PhD in biochemistry. Through further research and laboratory experience, she hopes to make a positive impact towards human health and disease research. Sylvia’s unwavering commitment to scientific inquiry and her determination to grow and learn new fields makes her a promising scholar we know will be a powerful addition to any graduate program.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
