On behalf of the EWU AA-NH/PI Planning Committee we invite you to participate in the many events throughout the month. Please see our calendar below. If you have any questions please contact Pui-Yan Lam at plam@ewu.edu.
Terms such as “Asian Americans and Pacific islanders” and “Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AA-NH/PI)” encompass a large and diverse group of communities, each with their own unique and complex histories and experiences.
This year’s EWU Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebration will bring our attention to the important conversations happening across the United States about the issues and controversies associated with umbrella terms such as “Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI)” and how they contribute to the invisibility of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities and the inequities they face. We will feature activities by our Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Club and the storytelling projects of our student Margaret Albaugh and our recent alum Frances Grace Mortel.
