You will need a math placement score of at least 41 to take any of these classes. If your score is below 41, you will need to take MTHD 106 as a prerequisite. If your score is below 30, you will need to take MTHD 103 before taking MTHD 106. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_21\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">MATH 121<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_21'>Because you will have later coursework in statistics for this major, we recommend taking MATH 121 &#8211; Introduction to Statistics for a good foundation. MATH 107 &#8211; Math Reasoning is another good option because there is a statistics unit in that course. For either, you will need a math placement score of at least 41. If your score is below 41, you will need to take MTHD 106 as a prerequisite. If your score is below 30, you will need to take MTHD 103 before taking MTHD 106. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_27\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">MATH 170<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_27'>Because you will be studying art or design, we recommend taking MATH 170 &#8211; Geometry and Art for a good foundation. MATH 107 &#8211; Math Reasoning is another good option if you need flexibility for your schedule. For either, you will need a math placement score of at least 41. If your score is below 41, you will need to take MTHD 106 as a prerequisite. If your score is below 30, you will need to take MTHD 103 before taking MTHD 106. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_22\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">MATH 141<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_22'>MATH 141 &#8211; Precalculus I is required for this major. We recommend taking it early, in your freshman year if possible. You will need a math placement score of at least 56 to take this class. If your score is below 56, you will need to take MATH 114 as a prerequisite. If your score is below 41, you will need to take MTHD 104 then MATH 114 first. If your score is below 30, you will need to take MTHD 103 first. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_23\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">MATH 142<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_23'>MATH 142 &#8211; Precalculus II is required for this major. We recommend taking it early, in your freshman year if possible. You will need a math placement score of 66 to take this class. If your score is below 66, you will have some prerequisites to complete. \nIf your score is between 0 and 29, take MTHD 103, then MTHD 104, then MATH 114, then MATH 141 to be ready for this class. \nIf your score is between 29 and 40, take MTHD 104, then MATH 114, then MATH 141 to be ready for this class. \nIf your score is between 41 and 55, first take MATH 114 then MATH 141 to be ready for this class. \nIf your score is between 56 and 65, you will only need to take MATH 141 to be ready for this class. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_24\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">MATH 161, MATH 162 and MATH 231<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_24'>This major requires MATH 161 &#8211; Calculus I, MATH 162 &#8211; Calculus II and MATH 231 &#8211; Linear Algebra. Most students complete MATH 161 and MATH 162 before MATH 231. If your math placement score is below 76, you will have some prerequisites you need to complete first. If your score is between 0 and 29, take MTHD 103, then MTHD 104, then MATH 114, then MATH 141, and then MATH 142 to be ready for these classes. If your score is between 29 and 40, take MTHD 104, then MATH 114, then MATH 141, then MATH 142 to be ready for these classes. If your score is between 41 and 55, first take MATH 114 then MATH 141, then MATH 142 to be ready for these classes. If your score is between 56 and 65, you will need to take MATH 141 and then MATH 142 to be ready for this class. If your score is just below 76, you will only need to take MATH 142 to complete the prerequisites. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_25\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">MATH 161, MATH 162 and MATH 163<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_25'>This major requires MATH 161 &#8211; Calculus I, MATH 162 &#8211; Calculus II and MATH 163 &#8211; Calculus III. If your math placement score is below 76, you will have some prerequisites you need to complete first. If your score is between 0 and 29, take MTHD 103, then MTHD 104, then MATH 114, then MATH 141, and then MATH 142 to be ready for these classes. If your score is between 29 and 40, take MTHD 104, then MATH 114, then MATH 141, then MATH 142 to be ready for these classes. If your score is between 41 and 55, first take MATH 114 then MATH 141, then MATH 142 to be ready for these classes. If your score is between 56 and 65, you will need to take MATH 141 and then MATH 142 to be ready for this class. If your score is just below 76, you will only need to take MATH 142 to complete the prerequisites. <\/div><\/div><div id=\"field_30_29\" class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gfield--input-type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--has-description field_description_below field_validation_below gfield_visibility_visible\"  ><h3 class=\"gsection_title\">At least MATH 161, MATH 162, MATH 163, and MATH 241<\/h3><div class='gsection_description' id='gfield_description_30_29'>There are a lot of math classes required for this major. We recommend starting to take these early &#8211; starting your freshman year. You will need to take the entire Calculus series, starting with MATH 161 &#8211; Calculus I, and ending with MATH 241 &#8211; Calculus IV. MATH 137 meets once per week as a class with an additional 2 hour per week math lab requirement, and is designed to support students with the MATH 107 material. This support class is a seminar course where participation in math discussions is a key element to developing understanding.
