Welcome to Fall 2022 from your librarian liaison!

Dear faculty colleagues,

I hope you all have had a good summer, and you are now setting up for Fall 2022.

I know most of you, but for anyone new – I am Liya Deng, the Social Sciences Librarian at JFK Library. I thoroughly enjoy working with each of you as faculty, as well as students—assisting you with your curriculum and research needs and interacting with your students as they learn more about the variety of library resources and services they can access.

For this quarter, I would like to remind you that I would be happy to create library course-specific guides that are tailored to your course assignments and your students‘ research needs. You can always embed those library resource guides in your Canvas courses.  As usual, please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience if you wish to request subject-specific library instruction sessions for the classes you teach.

Also, I am happy to work with your students and provide an individual research consultation to them if they need additional assistance with library research. For example, you may find that students are struggling with selecting the most appropriate online library databases for a specific research need – or that they still need some quick help with defining their library search strategy.

In addition, below is the link to some video tutorials that the library has created previously. They cover a range of basic library-related topics from General Library Orientation, to Searching the Library Catalog to Find Books, Articles & More, to Finding Full Text Scholarly Articles.

Don’t hesitate to follow up with me with any questions – and wishing you a wonderful fall quarter!

All my best,

Liya
