About the event<\/p>\n
Editors Larry Clark and Adriana Janovich, along with featured writers, will present the newly published anthology The Evergreen Collection: Exceptional Stories from Across Washington State. Auntie’s Bookstore will be there to sell copies of the author’s titles following the presentation. This event is free.<\/p>\n
\nAbout the book<\/p>\n
While working for Washington State Magazine, eleven journalists traveled throughout the region to interview farmers, chefs, wine tasters, mountain climbers, scientists, and more. The resulting stories highlight the Evergreen State\u2019s captivating people, industries, and history, describing influential programs, cities from Aberdeen to Zillah, and a wide variety of trends, research, and innovative solutions.<\/p>\n
The writers introduce the people who keep the largest ferry system in the country running, examine the most deadly pathogen ever recorded, and reveal the secret ingredient that makes Cougar Gold cheese possible. They also cover creating the Cosmic Crisp, producing Skagit Valley tulips, how soil composition impacts the taste of wine, and the fickle business of growing cherries. Additional accounts chronicle art and the Makah canoe, significant architecture, the advent of Master Gardeners, a stash of Mount St. Helens ash, challenges related to ocean life, and much more.<\/p>\n
Gathered from thousands of pieces published in Washington State Magazine across two decades, The Evergreen Collection celebrates the state\u2019s vast diversity and the impressive accomplishments of those who call it home.<\/p>\n
About the editors<\/p>\n
\nLarry Clark has been a writer, editor, and communications professional at magazines, nonprofits, state government, and corporations for over twenty years. He holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism and bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in Asian studies. He became Washington State Magazine\u2019s editor in 2013.<\/p>\n
Associate Editor Adriana Janovich joined Washington State University in 2019 after two decades in newspaper newsrooms across Washington. She has taught feature writing and beginning journalism, and contributed to popular travel guides and in-flight magazines. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism, as well as a master\u2019s degree in specialized journalism.<\/p>\n
