The event returns to the Bing Crosby Theater this Valentine\u2019s Day, Sunday, February 14.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/INK.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2120\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2120 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/INK-150x150.png\" alt=\"INK\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The reading, which features eleven award-winning local writers and two musicians, is a fundraiser for INK Art Space, a Spokane area nonprofit that works to provide arts education to Spokane\u2019s low-income and at-risk youth. It\u2019s a chance to listen to some great stories, hear some great music, <em>and <\/em>help the community. There\u2019s no way you\u2019re not going to feel good after a night like that.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2513\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2513\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/sharma-shields.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2513\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2513\" src=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/sharma-shields-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"sharma shields\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2513\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sharma Shields<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Local author Sharma Shields, who spearheaded Fairy Tales last year, is once again coordinating the event and the <em>Lilac City Fairy Tales<\/em> anthology, alongside Spokane poet Ellen Welcker. Their nonprofit, Scablands Lit, is publishing this year\u2019s anthology, in which all the pieces are inspired by the theme \u201cMarry a Monster.\u201d If you like fantasy or magical realism or fairy tales, this should be right up your alley. Participating authors include PEN USA Award-winning novelist Kim Barnes, short -story writer and EWU lit prof Polly Buckingham, and American Book Award-winner Debra Magpie Earling, along with other talented fiction writers and poets. For the second straight year the readers are all women authors, which is pretty cool, and Jess Walter will speak about INK for a short time, to inform the audience about the organization the event benefits.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marry-a-Monster.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2512\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2512 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marry-a-Monster.jpg\" alt=\"Marry a Monster\" width=\"300\" height=\"464\" \/><\/a>Local folk\/indie musicians Liz Rognes and Windoe (the solo project of Bartlett owner Karli Ingersoll) will each perform short sets during the night. They\u2019ve both been mainstays of the Spokane music scene for a while, and as anyone who\u2019s seen them live will tell you, they\u2019re <em>really <\/em>good.
