{"id":2482,"date":"2016-01-27T14:00:27","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T22:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/?p=2482"},"modified":"2025-01-31T12:46:49","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T20:46:49","slug":"three-poets-laureate-one-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/getlit\/three-poets-laureate-one-place\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Poets Laureate, One Place"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Alex Baker<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In yet another indication of how strong Spokane\u2019s literary arts community has grown, we\u2019ll soon be treated to an event featuring three current and former Poet Laureates, all Spokane authors!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/todmarshall-fb-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2462\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2462 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Tod Marshall\" src=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/todmarshall-fb-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"todmarshall-fb\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>On Thursday, February 18<sup>th <\/sup>from 7:00PM- 8:00PM, Auntie\u2019s will host current Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall, current Spokane Poet Laureate Laura Read, and Spokane\u2019s first Poet Laureate Thom Caraway.<\/p>\n<p>Tod Marshall was recently named Washington State\u2019s Poet Laureate from 2016-2018. Marshall\u2019s work includes <em>Bugle<\/em>, <em>The Tangled Line<\/em>, and <em>Dare Say<\/em>. Marshall is a resident of Spokane where he is a professor at <a href=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/SRX_LAURA_READ_JMrId6T.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2483\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2483 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/SRX_LAURA_READ_JMrId6T-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"something\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Gonzaga University.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Read is known for her Floating Bridge Prize winning chapbook, <em>The Chewbacca on Hollywood Boulevard Reminds Me of You<\/em>, as well as another collection, <em>Instructions for My Mother\u2019s Funeral<\/em>, which was the winner of the 2011 Donald Hall Prize in Poetry. Read teaches at Spokane Falls Community College.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Thom-Caraway-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1272\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1272 size-full alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/getlitfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Thom-Caraway-2-e1453931753235.jpg\" alt=\"Thom Caraway 2\" width=\"152\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a>Thom Caraway most recently published the local Spokane anthology called <em>Railtown Almanac<\/em> through Sage Hill Press.
