\"spoyo-logo-color-large\"<\/a>On Saturday October 10th, Spokane comes alive for SpoYo<\/a>, the first annual Spokane Youth Book Festival, a celebration of the importance of books in young people’s lives.<\/p>\n

First, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM<\/strong>, EWU’s Riverpoint Campus<\/a> serves as host for a full slate of free events for children and their families, where they can meet renowned authors, ask questions, discover new books and create their own, and much more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Authors Nick Bruel<\/a> (Bad Kitty<\/em> series<\/a>), Liesl Shurtliff<\/a> (Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin<\/a><\/i>), Dan Gemeinhart<\/a> (The Honest Truth<\/em><\/a>), Kris Dinnison<\/a> (You and Me and Him<\/a><\/em>), Katherine Pryor<\/a> (Sylvia’s Spinach<\/em><\/a>), Sherri Duskey Rinker<\/a> (Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site<\/a><\/em>), comic book graphic novelist Kazu Kibuishi<\/a> (Amulet<\/em> series<\/a>), and more will be on hand reading from their work, leading workshops, and spreading a love of books.<\/p>\n

These events are free to the public. The Fresh Plate Caf\u00e9 will be serving food all day, and families are encouraged to bring food and refreshments of their own.<\/p>\n

Then, Saturday evening at 7:00 PM<\/strong>, SpoYo culminates at the Bing Crosby Theater with author S.E. Grove<\/a>, whose 2014 debut for middle-grade readers, The Glass Sentence<\/em><\/a>, was an Indiebound and New York Times Bestseller. Its sequel, The Golden Specific<\/a><\/em>, was published this summer and continues the 19th century oceanfaring adventures of young protagonists Sophia and Theo. The book was called a \u201cdelicious blend of magic, history, and science\u201d by School Library Journal and \u201cbrilliant in concept, breathtaking in scale and stellar in its worldbuilding\u201d by Kirkus Reviews.<\/p>\n

The author will read from her work and talk about her inspiration for the books, as well as take questions from the audience. Books will be available from Auntie\u2019s Bookstore<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This event is free to all youth and students with current ID. $5 suggested donation for adults.<\/p>\n
