DESCRIPTION:Have a ghost story you wish to share? Join award-winning novelist and Guggenheim Fellow\, Debra Magpie Earling\, to create eerie stories! This workshop is for all writing levels and storytellers. \nHave a ghost story you wish to share? Maybe you’d like to write a spooky tale\, but don’t know where to end or begin\, and…well…you’re too scared to write it? Welcome! Together we will brave eerie stories! This workshop is for all writing levels and storytellers—but be forewarned it’s not for the faint of heart! \nDebra Magpie Earling is the author of The Lost Journals of Sacajewea and Perma Red. She has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant\, a Guggenheim Fellowship\, a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award\, and the Montana Book Award. She retired from the University of Montana where she was named professor emeritus in 2021. She is Bitterroot Salish. She is also the 2024 Spokane Is Reading featured author. \nWe strive to make events welcoming for people of all abilities. DESCRIPTION:The first visiting writer of the year will be here Friday\, October 25\, 2024. Poet\, Alexandra Teague will be visiting us to workshop EWU MFA poets in CAT 302 from 3-5pm. \nAlexandra Teague’s most recent book is [ominous music intensifying] (Persea 2024). She is also the author of Spinning Tea Cups: A Mythical American Memoir (Oregon State University Press\, 2023)\, recent runner-up for the Idaho Book of the Year award. She is previously the author of three books of poetry—Or What We’ll Call Desire\, The Wise and Foolish Builders and Mortal Geography—and the novel The Principles Behind Flotation\, as well as co-editor of Bullets into Bells: Poets & Citizens Respond to Gun Violence. A former Stegner Fellow and NEA recipient\, she is a professor at University of Idaho\, where she co-directs the MFA program.
