SUMMARY:Introduction to the Novella A Writing Workshop with Alexis M. Smith
DESCRIPTION:A six-part series on how to write a short-form novel with Lambda Literary Award & PNBA Award winning novelist Alexis M. Smith. \nNovella\, novelette\, short novel…whatever you want to call them\, some stories surpass the short story form but end up somewhere shy of the traditional novel’s length. What makes these shorter novels different and how do they work? What might it look like to set out to write a novella or a novelette? \nJoin Lambda Literary Award and PNBA Award-winning novelist Alexis M. Smith for a workshop that explores the craft of shorter novels. We’ll take a look at classic and contemporary examples\, discuss the stylistic and technical elements\, and try our hand at the form with exercises to help along the way. Share work\, receive feedback from fellow writers\, and think out loud about this form’s idiosyncrasies and possibilities. All experience levels and genres (sci-fi\, romance\, mystery\, young adult\, etc.) are welcome. \nMeets once a week for six weeks\, 1.5 to 2 hours each session. Registration is required and when you register\, you’ll be registered for all six of the following workshops. \nNov 5 2024 4:00pm – 5:30pm \nNov 12 2024 4:00pm – 5:30pm \nNov 19 2024 4:00pm – 5:30pm \nDec 3 2024 4:00pm – 5:30pm \nDec 10 2024 4:00pm – 5:30pm \nDec 17 2024 4:00pm – 5:30pm \nBy attending library programs\, you are agreeing to potentially appear in photos/videos taken at our locations that may be used in promotional materials including social media. \nWe strive to make events welcoming for people of all abilities. To request accommodations (i.e. hearing assistance\, ASL requests\, or other ADA inquiries)\, email sday@spokanelibrary.org. \nFor all event information inquiries\, email telref@spokanelibrary.org or call 509-444-5300. \nAGE GROUP: | Adults | \nEVENT TYPE: | Writing Workshops | Learning & Lectures | Book & Film Discussions | Arts & Culture |
