Payment Responsibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When a student registers for any class at Eastern Washington University (EWU) or receives any service from
EWU, the student accepts responsibility for all tuition, fees, and other associated costs assessed as a result of
registration and\/or receipt of services. Registration and receipt of services constitute the basis upon which EWU
provides educational services in accordance with university policies.
Charges are due in full on the scheduled due date in accordance with EWU\u2019s deadlines and policies, regardless of
whether a bill or statement is received. Any charges resulting from adjustments to registration, housing, or meal
plans after the first day of the term are due immediately. Administrative, clerical, or technical billing errors do not
absolve a student of financial responsibility to pay the correct amount of tuition, fees, and other associated
financial obligations assessed as a result of registration at EWU. If payment is deferred pending disbursement of
financial aid, failure to receive such aid does not remove the obligation to make timely payments in full. If
payments made to a student account are returned by the bank for any reason, repayment of the payment plus a
returned payment fee will be required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Course Instruction \/ Class Drop \/ University Withdrawal<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Educational instruction may be presented in a variety of formats (including in-person, hybrid, or online instruction).
Financial responsibility for EWU balances, debts, and charges is governed by EWU policies notwithstanding
modifications to the format of instruction.
Students are not automatically withdrawn from classes for non-payment or non-attendance. It is the student\u2019s
responsibility to formally withdraw from a class or classes if withdrawal is desired. Students are responsible for
complying with university policies regarding withdrawal from EWU. If a student drops or withdraws from some or
all classes, or fails to attend class, the student remains responsible for payment of tuition and associated fees in
accordance with university policies.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delinquent Account \/ Collection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Financial Hold<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If payment is not made by the scheduled due date, EWU may place a financial hold on a student account, which
may prevent registration for future classes.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late Payment Charge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If a student account is not paid by the scheduled due date, EWU may assess a late payment charge at the rate
specified on its website, which may include a set late payment charge and\/or interest on the past-due portion of
the student account until the past-due balance is paid in full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collection Agency Fees<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If a student fails to pay a student account bill or any monies due and owing to EWU by the scheduled due date,
and fails to make acceptable payment arrangements to bring the account current, EWU may refer the account to a
collection agency. If EWU refers an account balance to a third party for collection, whether an attorney or
collection agency, the student may be responsible for any costs and collection fees, which may be up to the
maximum amount permitted by applicable law, but not to exceed 50% of the amount outstanding, and all costs
and expenses, including reasonable attorney\u2019s fees, related to the collection of any unpaid charges on the student
account. If a lawsuit is filed to recover an outstanding balance, the student may also be responsible for any costs
associated with the lawsuit, such as court costs, attorneys\u2019 fees, or other applicable costs. Finally, a delinquent
account may be furnished to one or more of the national credit bureaus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communication<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Method of Communication<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

EWU uses university email as an official method of communication. Students are responsible for monitoring their
EWU email account on a timely basis.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Method of Billing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

EWU uses electronic billing (e-bill) as its official billing method. Students are responsible for viewing and paying
their student account e-bill by the scheduled due date. Failure to review an e-bill does not constitute a valid reason
for paying after the due date. E-bill information may be accessed through EagleNet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

EWU and its agents or contractors may use available contact information, including current or future phone
numbers, email addresses, mailing addresses, or wireless devices, to communicate regarding delinquent student
accounts or other debts owed to EWU, or to provide general university information. Communications may include
the use of automated telephone dialing equipment or artificial or pre-recorded voice or text messages, as
permitted by law. Requests to revoke consent for certain automated communications may be submitted to Student
Financial Services or the applicable contractor or agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Updating Contact Information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students are responsible for keeping EWU records up to date with current mailing addresses, email addresses,
and phone numbers by updating contact information through EagleNet. Upon leaving EWU for any reason,
students are responsible for providing updated contact information for purposes of continued communication
regarding any amounts that remain due and owing to EWU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1098-T<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Federal regulations require EWU to request a Social Security number (SSN) or taxpayer identification number
(TIN) for IRS Form 1098-T reporting purposes. Failure to provide an SSN or TIN may result in IRS fines assessed
as a result of the missing information. IRS Form 1098-T, Tuition Statement, is provided electronically.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Privacy Rights & Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

EWU is required to comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which prohibits the
release of information from a student\u2019s education record without written permission unless an exception exists
under the law. Requests to share information from an education record with a third party require written
authorization in accordance with procedures outlined on EWU\u2019s Registrar\u2019s Office website. Such authorization
may be revoked at any time following the procedures identified on the same website.
