Prevention Internship for Spring 2023

The Eastern Washington Area Health Education Center (EWAHEC) is offering an internship in Prevention during the spring of 2023 in partnership with the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative!  This program is sponsored by a grant from the Washington State Department of Health.

Application for the Prevention internship is competitive! Student applicants compete against other students in their local area for their host sites.

In order to be eligible for this Prevention internship, interns:

  • Must be 16 or older at the time of their internship
  • Must live near their CPWI internship site OR have reliable internet access and phone to work remotely
  • Must intern 10 hours per week for 4 weeks (40 total hours)
  • Preference is given to black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) or students from low-income families (200% of FPL or less)
  • Must attend the online Prevention Internship orientation
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Social Security Number by the time of the internship (Washington State purchasing rule)
  • Must provide an IRS form W-9 to the EWAHEC
  • Must pass a background check

Interns receive:

  • 3 EWAHEC volunteer polo shirts as uniforms
  • Mileage reimbursement at the federal rate of $0.62 per mile after completion of the internship; if the intern does not have a car but there is bus service in the community, the EWAHEC will provide a bus pass
  • $1200 stipend

Interns will be working on projects that are ongoing or new at the CPWI site in which they are placed.  Some examples include:

  • Focused on Prevention and Wellness
  • Social media campaigns
  • Trainings
  • Office shadowing

  • Prevention programs are intended to educate people on the risks and consequences of adopting certain behaviors. This prevention internship opportunity focuses on substance use disorder and mental health.
