Education Department Sends ‘Eagle Strong’ Message to Students

Remote learning is complicated and can be lonely for some. Fortunately, the Eagle spirit is helping the community get through it together. During this difficult spring quarter, InsideEWU has been sharing stories that highlight members of the Eastern community who are “Eagle Strong.” Here is an example from the Education Department.

Melissa Bedford, an assistant professor of literacy at EWU, thought it would be a good idea to get the education faculty and staff together—kind of—to send a message of support to students. Together they came up with a message and each participant sent back an image to create a photo collage message.

“Each person’s personality came through in their creation of their assigned word,” says Bedford. “Some painted their signs or words, some printed them and some got really crafty—you can see one of our supervisors quilted her word!”

Once completed, the Education Department emailed the message to Eastern education students and shared it on social media.

“This photo collage really highlights the community we have in the Department of Education,” Bedford says. “From professors and lecturers to office staff to field supervisors, this family came together to share a message to our students that we miss them and can’t wait for the day we can be back in the classroom together!”
