This program may be started during spring or fall quarters. If you have an interest in working with young children and children with special needs, the Blended Program will provide highly specialized training for the challenging and rewarding task of meeting the educational, emotional and support needs of young children in an educational setting.
Students who graduate from our Blended Early Childhood Education and Special Education Program are eligible for P-3 teacher licensure in the State of Washington and will gain valuable expertise working with children with disabilities, ages 3-8, and their families. The ECE Program will prepare candidates to work in Head Start, ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) and public or private preschools. This program develops the skills and knowledge base of future early childhood and special education educators through an applied, field-based format. Our program foundation is based on principles of developmentally appropriate practice and universal design for learning. Coursework is aligned with Washington State Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Professionals, the ECE Endorsement Competencies for the State of Washington Educator Standards Board, the National Association for the Education of Young Children Standards for Early Childhood Preparation Programs, and an endorsement in special education.

Early Childhood Special Education Add-On
This add-on provides individuals who hold a teaching certificate an endorsement in early childhood special education (birth to grade 3). Instruction prepares teachers to work with infants and young children with disabilities and their families. Program focus is on effective intervention practices for home and school settings.
Early Childhood Special Education Minor
The minor in Early Childhood Special Education is designed to assist general education teachers and other related services personnel to work more effectively with children with special needs from birth to grade 3 (this minor does not meet an endorsement).
