History
Committee Members
The Education Department is building upon a history of dedication to education and previous drives held by EWU. Nadine Arevalo, wife of the former University President Rodolfo Arevalo, worked extensively with the Cheney community and coordinated several school supply drives. Following, EWU Facilities continued a drive, currently led by Jim Butler. During Fall 2017, the Education Department decided to lend a hand. Reaching out to Brian Davenport, Director of the Office of Community Engagement, the pieces quickly came together as departments across campus joined together. A committee was formed to help with the organization of the event, the collection of supplies and the coordination between departments. We hope this will be a successful event so that we may help the Cheney community, increase the accessibility to supplies for students in need, and support student who might one day become Eastern Eagles.

Meet Obed

Obed is the school supply drive mascot. Named for Obed Williamson, a former Education Department Chair and the namesake of the education building, Obed represents our commitment to EWU's origins as a teaching school and a continued commitment to education, social justice and community. Keep an eagle eye out for Obed; he appears on flyers, posters and collection bins for our school supply drive.
