While considering the entire course, I learned many positive aspects of leadership. I really enjoyed this course, it has really taught me how to take the lead in life, and in my career. I have learned to lead by example. From experience I have also learned true leaders remain positive no matter what and keep a positive demeanor at all times. According to Rohrbach 2017, “It is the most fundamental truth of all. Before you can lead, you have to believe that you can have a positive impact on others”. I believe it is very important to always remain positive when dealing with others, because this shows a great example of professionalism. During this course I did not experience any negative aspects about leadership.
I actually took the lead at my job and started doing monthly training on medical emergencies. Every month every two weeks the entire office comes together to enact out a medical emergency. During my orientation I learned the importance of this and I felt during orientation when we actually had the chance to go through the scenario, I wanted to do better. This motivated me to start the training at my job. Everyone enjoys this and believes they will be better prepared in the event of a real medical emergency.
This semester was really rough for me because I found myself wanting to quit. I felt like this because I became very overwhelmed with real life. I am currently going through a terrible divorce, I work full-time, I have a 14-month-old son, and I am in school full-time. At times I did not feel like I had enough time to give my all to every area in my life. I just kept going, no matter what, I think this is an example of how a leader has to keep going no matter the circumstances. I wanted to quit, but I kept going. I was very determined after seeking encouragement from one of my professors, and hearing her story I was very motivated to complete this semester. It was very difficult, and I know some areas lacked because I had too much on my plate, but I honesty did the best I could do.
As part of my professional development I plan to keep these experiences with me to stay strong no matter what the circumstances are. I made it to the end of this semester; I believe I can conquer anything because this was a very hard semester and very difficult time in my life, and no matter what I kept going. As part of my professional development, I also learned to never let people see you sweat; always stay professional no matter what, and that is what I am doing. Overall I really enjoyed this class and the books were very motivating, I learned so much valuable information that I am able to use in life.
My learning and positive, negative experiences made me stronger and gave me endurance to complete my leadership project. By the time I had to start and finish my leadership project, I was very eager and proud because my project is a result from what I learned in the very beginning of the semester in orientation, all the way to the end of the semester in my leadership class. I will always have this moment in my life to look back on when I think things are hard. In the future this situation will make me stay strong no matter what, professional, and take the lead in life.
