Born in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents, Charlie is a first generation Cuban American. He and his younger sister, Meliza, were fortunate   enough to be raised by both parents, and are part of a big family. They both graduated from St. Brendan High School in Miami, FL.

After many dead-end jobs, Charlie joined the U.S. Navy in 2002 (six months after the towers fell). He served as a Navy Corpsman alongside the U.S. Marine Corps for five years. While serving, he met his wife, Joselynn, who is also a U.S. Navy Corpsman. They met while they both were stationed in Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD). While stationed in Naples, Italy, Joselynn and Charlie had their only child, a daughter named Yasmine. After a few moves that took them from Alaska to Florida, they ultimately settled down in Spokane, WA. They have lived here for about nine years.

Charlie graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and is currently working on his MBA. At present, Charlie works as an Outreach Coordinator for the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane. Charlie is a 92nd Ops Group Honorary Commander at Fairchild Air Force Base, and he is a voting board member of the Spokane Regional Health District and the Spokane County Veterans Advisory Board. He and two other Honorary Commanders, recently established the Favored Few Support Crew Fund with Innovia. This fund will help with the quality of life, resilience, and mental health for active-duty military members and their families. Charlie is also the co-chair for the Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone, a program from the Hiring Our Heroes organization, that concentrates on helping military spouses gain employment.

When he is not busy, Charlie loves to dance, and he has been known to teach a few classes of salsa and merengue. He also loves to spend time with his family, and his friends who have become his Spokane family.

For questions or accommodations, please contact Kim Davis at kdavis2@ewu.edu or 509.359.6874.

Let’s call it a “quaranzine!” This workshop will give you a great outlet to let your voice be heard. No experience or skill required.

Lisa Logan received their BA in Women’s and Gender Studies from Eastern Washington University in 2009. Lisa was also involved at EWU as a McNair Scholar as a non-traditional student and did research on representations of bisexuality and motherhood in film. Lisa received their MA in Gender and Women’s Studies from University of Arizona in 2013 and researched technologies of childbirth. Prior to coming to EWU to lead the WAGE. 3- 4:30 p.m.
JFK Library Auditorium
50th Anniversary Title IX Film Presentation
Rise of the Wahine

Join us for a movie and snacks!

This movie can also be checked out from the EWU Libraries: HERE

In the years following the Civil Rights movement and the passage of Title IX in 1972, Dr. Donnis Thompson (an African-American female coach), Patsy Mink (the first Asian-American U.S. congresswoman), and Beth McLachlin (the team captain of a female volleyball team), battle discrimination from the halls of Washington D.C. to the dusty volleyball courts of the University of Hawaii, fighting for the rights of young women to play sports. Rise of the Wahine is the Winner of the Hawaii International Film Festival Audience Award for Best Documentary, and is both rich in women's history and inspiring for all who desire to transform the world around them. It is perfect for coaches to view with their teams, families to view together, high school/college classes, and for young men to grow in a deeper understanding in their hearts for the struggles of women and girls around them. Above all, the film reveals how change-makers overcome injustice with wisdom, an innovative spirit, and without becoming victims to their circumstances.
