Academic Standing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Academic Standing is based on your GPA here at EWU. The goal is to be in \u201cGood Standing\u201d by making sure your cumulative EWU GPA remains at 2.0 or above. Many programs have additional GPA requirements, but students must be in Good Standing to remain at EWU. If you are on Academic Alert or Warning, you and your advisor will work together to complete a plan to get you to good academic standing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Good Standing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

All EWU Students who have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher are in good academic standing. <\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Academic Alert<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Any first-quarter<\/strong> EWU student who does not<\/strong> earn the grades needed to have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is placed on Academic Alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students on Academic Alert who do not to earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher in the next quarter will progress to Academic Warning.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Academic Warning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Any continuing EWU student who does not earn the grades needed to have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is placed on Academic Warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once a Student is placed on Academic Warning, their term GPA will need to be a 2.0 or higher to prevent Dismissal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A student on Academic Warning, who achieves a term GPA of a 2.0, will continue to be on Academic Warning until their cumulative GPA reaches a 2.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students on Academic Warning who do not earn a 2.0 or higher for the next term, and whose cumulative GPA remains below a 2.0 will be academically dismissed.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n\n

Academic Dismissal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students who have been academically dismissed and would like to return to EWU may petition for academic reinstatement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students on Academic Warning whose cumulative and quarterly GPA remains remains below 2.0 will be dismissed from the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A student who has been academically dismissed from the University cannot enroll at EWU for the following regular academic quarter (fall, winter or spring).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a first dismissal, a student is required to remain out of school for at least one academic quarter. After a second dismissal, a student is required to remain out of school for one academic year.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Financial Aid Warning & Suspension<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Please be aware: financial aid warning and suspension are separate issues from Academic Warning or Dismissal. Contact the Financial Aid and Scholarships office<\/a> for information.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Petitioning for Reinstatement<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Academic Reinstatement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Undergraduate students<\/strong> who have been academically dismissed and who wish to return to EWU must petition for academic reinstatement. Before petitioning for academic reinstatement, please review the full Satisfactory Progress Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students academically dismissed for the first time are eligible for academic reinstatement after remaining out of EWU for one academic quarter (Fall, Winter, or Spring). Students dismissed for a second time are eligible for reinstatement after remaining out of EWU for one calendar year (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both a first-time and second-time petition submissions need to state your readiness for academic success and reflect a more positive academic position. Successful academic performance at other institutions, such as a community college, helps to demonstrate academic readiness. Think about and describe some of the specific steps you have taken or are going to take to achieve your stated academic goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financial Aid Reinstatement<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Please be aware, academic reinstatement is different from financial aid reinstatement. Furthermore, the approval of a Petition for Academic Reinstatement does not imply that financial aid will be reinstated. For clarification about this please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships<\/a> directly for information about financial aid eligibility requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To petition for academic reinstatement<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Complete Undergraduate Petition for Academic Reinstatement <\/a>online form. Please answer the questions on the Petition (as a formal letter), if you need additional space you may upload a PDF document. No more than two (2) pages in length, single-spaced. A handwritten response will NOT be accepted. Please see the Guidelines to Petition for Academic Reinstatement below for tips and suggestions for completing your petition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Attach official transcripts for any college or university coursework since your last attendance at EWU (or in progress transcripts, if grades are not yet available).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Attach any documentation that may assist the Academic Reinstatement Committee in making their decision (such as a letter from a doctor or lawyer, or a police report).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Undergraduate Students who have been absent from EWU for more than four quarters<\/strong> must apply for re-admission to EWU once their academic reinstatement has been approved. Please visit the Admissions Office website<\/a> for information about applying as a Returning Undergraduate (former EWU student).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Again, for guidance, think about and describe some of the specific steps you are going to take to achieve your stated academic goals.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Petitions and ALL supporting documentation must be received by the EWU Reinstatement committee by 5 PM<\/strong> on the posted deadline:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
