Commencement Staff Assignments

There are several different types of assignments you can sign up for. On this page, you can browse through the different assignments and find more information on each assignment's job duties.

Types of Staff Assignments

Set-Up/Take-Down Expand
JOB DUTIES
  1. Before the ceremony begins, help set up the red bags (with programs enclosed) on the chairs for the graduates.
  2. If needed, help with setting up signage for the ceremony.
  3. Assist with resetting the floor, adjusting signage, etc. after the ceremony.
  4. Become familiar with information provided in packets (distributed at the mandatory rehearsal) prior to Commencement Day in order to respond to questions and requests for information.
  5. Contact appropriate personnel for problem resolution (line marshals, college assistants, crowd management, police, etc.).
Gonfalon Helper Expand
JOB DUTIES
  1. Be the primary contact for the student gonfalon carriers on Commencement Day
  2. Attend the Gonfalon Rehearsals (9AM & 10AM) on Monday, June 13th, where you will meet with the student gonfalon carriers from each college.
  3. On Commencement Day, meet up with the student gonfalon carriers and help them put on the gonfalons, arrange themselves in the proper processional order, and help with spacing/timing of procession.
  4. Become familiar with the information provided in packets (distributed at orientation/rehearsal) prior to commencement in order to respond to questions and requests for information.
  5. Contact appropriate personnel for problem resolution (line marshals, college assistants, crowd management, police, etc.).
Balloon Check Expand
JOB DUTIES
  1. Collect balloons from families and guests. Balloons are not allowed in the Arena.
  2. Give the guest a numbered ticket. Staple a balloon check ticket to the balloon string (if a guest checks multiple balloons, tie their balloon strings together). Give the guest their copy of the ticket. Guests may collect their balloons after the ceremony.
  3. To collect their balloons, guests may return to the balloon check and turn in their copy of the ticket. Match the ticket numbers to the ticket on the balloon(s). Return the balloons to the guest and discard the tickets.
  4. Contact appropriate personnel for problem resolution (line marshals, college assistants, crowd management, police, etc.).
Information Table Expand
JOB DUTIES
  1. Assist with general information and directions for graduates, guests, faculty, staff, etc.
  2. Become familiar with the information provided in packets (distributed at the mandatory rehearsal) prior to Commencement Day in order to respond to questions and requests for information.
  3. Contact appropriate personnel for problem resolution (line marshals, college assistants, crowd management, police, etc.).
Directional Staff Expand
JOB DUTIES
  1. Help direct staff, faculty, graduates and their families and provide general information about the ceremonies.
  2. Become familiar with the information provided in packets (distributed at orientation/rehearsal) prior to commencement in order to respond to questions and requests for information.
  3. Contact appropriate personnel for problem resolution (line marshals, college assistants, crowd management, police, etc.).
Student Line-Up Expand
JOB DUTIES
  1. Work with the College Assistant staff from each college to help graduates find their place in the student line-up areas (graduate vs. undergraduate and post-baccalaureate).
  2. Become familiar with the information provided in packets (distributed at orientation/rehearsal) prior to commencement in order to respond to questions and requests for information.
  3. Contact appropriate personnel for problem resolution (line marshals, college assistants, crowd management, police, etc.).
