Miryam’s House provides transitional housing for women experiencing homelessness. They support and encourage women to find recovery and stability through life-skills education. The Home Yard Cottages has permanent, supportive housing for families in need. The main purpose is to help residents reach their goals and develop a sustainable life. Women’s Hearth is safe space for women to “drop in” during the day. Women that have experienced trauma, homelessness, and/or poverty may benefit from the community established here. EduCare is an onsite daycare for children of families in the programs. Certified teachers help the children recovering from trauma and rebuild the bond with their moms. Moms also meet to develop healthy parenting strategies and to be more successful. All of these programs work to support women and children and provide them with the help they need.

There are many different opportunities for teachers and students to make a difference with Transitions. Each program has a “Wish List” of items that are needed. Teachers could collect student donations and easily drop them off. Another way to contribute is for students and teachers to volunteer. This allows the women to see that there are people who care and that support them. One of the simplest ways to contribute is to have students write cards. Students will love that they are going to touch someone’s life and be eager to share about themselves.

The purpose of Transitions is to reduce and eliminate homelessness and poverty affecting women and children throughout Spokane.
