They bring community resources together to feed people in need by empowerment, education and partnership. They provide more than 2.5 million pounds of donated food in the Pacific Northwest. In donating money to the food bank, just one dollar provides 5 meals. They have mobile market and other programs that operate very efficiently with almost 99% of expenses going directly back to help hungry people. In one week the 2nd Harvest Food Bank provides meals of 55,000 people each week. This organization has been a leading network of hunger relief since 1971. They support our local communities in needs. They can give money, donate food, volunteer, and even hold an online fundraiser. Ways to incorporate this into a classroom or school in order to really make a difference for families are class competitions, where classes compete against one another to see who can raise the most food and money donations. Then have students actually deliver to 2nd Harvest Food Bank and volunteer to sort food or help in the warehouse where the food is stored.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second harvest food bank wants to tackle hunger one person at a time.
