Leiter, 1996).<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-204 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/calelearning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2016\/05\/burnout.jpg\" alt=\"burnout\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emotional exhaustion includes emotional depletion and work-related exhaustion.<\/li>\n<li>Depersonalization is the degree to which an individual is detached or the degree that an individual treats other with an impersonal response.<\/li>\n<li>Personal accomplishment is the feelings of achievement or competence related to one&#8217;s work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Smith&#8217;s (1986) cognitive affective model, burnout develops as a result of chronic exposure to stress as a result of a long-term perceived inability to meet situational demands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consequences Associated with School Burnout (Gardner, 2014)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sleep deprivation<\/li>\n<li>change in eating habits<\/li>\n<li>increased illness due to weakened immune system<\/li>\n<li>difficulty concentrating and poor memory\/attention<\/li>\n<li>lack of productivity<\/li>\n<li>poor performance<\/li>\n<li>avoidance of responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>loss of enjoyment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Signs of Burnout<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical\n<ul>\n<li>Feeling tired most of the time<\/li>\n<li>Lowered immunity<\/li>\n<li>Frequent headaches, back pain, or muscle aches<\/li>\n<li>Change in appetite or sleep habits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Emotional\n<ul>\n<li>Self-doubt<\/li>\n<li>Feeling helpless and hopeless<\/li>\n<li>Detachment<\/li>\n<li>Decreased motivation<\/li>\n<li>Increasingly negative outlook<\/li>\n<li>Decreased satisfaction and sense of accomplishment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Behavior\n<ul>\n<li>Withdrawing from responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Isolation<\/li>\n<li>Procrastination<\/li>\n<li>Using food, drugs, or alcohol to cope<\/li>\n<li>Taking out frustration on otheres<\/li>\n<li>Skipping class &#8211; Longer lasting symptoms\n<ul>\n<li>More challenging to reverse symptoms<\/li>\n<li>Disillusionment about the job<\/li>\n<li>Feeling bored, apathetic, or frustrated<\/li>\n<li>Feel ruled by a schedule<\/li>\n<li>Intermittent periods of psychological\/physical symptoms that last even when the provoking situation subsides<\/li>\n<li>Psychological symptoms\n<ul>\n<li>Irritability, aggression, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and suicidal thoughts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Stage Three &#8211;
