Passionate about fostering student well-being, she works to create a supportive campus community that enhances both education and overall wellness. During Cole\u2019s graduate program, he was a clinical mental health intern at the EWU counseling center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduating with his Masters, he moved to Vancouver Washington working with non-profit mental health agencies. He gained valuable experience working with these agencies and now applies that knowledge to the university counseling setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He focuses on interpersonal factors and strength-based approaches to assist clients in their journey. She supports campus-wide efforts to promote student wellbeing, including health education, basic needs support, financial wellness, substance use prevention, recovery support, and other initiatives that help students thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martha\u2019s background includes public health, education, mental health, recovery, and community wellness. Before joining EWU, she was a faculty member at Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, where she focused on school mental health, recovery-oriented care, health equity, and the wellbeing of under-resourced communities and systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martha is a former secondary English teacher, a public health researcher, and a yoga teacher trained in mindfulness and adaptive approaches to wellness. During Cole\u2019s graduate program, he was a clinical mental health intern at the EWU counseling center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduating with his Masters, he moved to Vancouver Washington working with non-profit mental health agencies. He gained valuable experience working with these agencies and now applies that knowledge to the university counseling setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He focuses on interpersonal factors and strength-based approaches to assist clients in their journey. He earned his Master of Social Work (MSW)&nbsp;from Boise State University and his&nbsp;Bachelor of Arts in Social Work&nbsp;from Eastern Washington University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael has experience supporting students with concerns including&nbsp;anxiety, depression, trauma, identity development, relationship challenges, and stress related to school and life changes. He enjoys working with the college population and strives to create a space where students feel safe, heard, and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael&#8217;s counseling approach is&nbsp;person-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based, drawing from&nbsp;CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and emotion regulation strategies. Debbie is also passionate about advocacy for immigrants, women, LGBTQ+ communities, and survivors of intimate partner violence. Her counseling approach is grounded in a humanistic, person-centered framework, often incorporating mindfulness and solution-focused strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her free time, Debbie enjoys singing, listening to popular music, playing video games, and staying active through volleyball. A lifelong animal lover, she is equally delighted by dogs, cats, bunnies, penguins, whales or even platypuses, and often finds herself exploring wildlife centers, zoos, or aquariums. This was after getting a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at San Antonio and interning with the U.S. Marshals. Once grad school was over, he worked in community mental health for a while before pivoting into the nonprofit world. Upon reflection, he decided that he was most fulfilled working as a student wellness facilitator at Gonzaga, and found a similar job at the University of Maine as an alcohol and drug educator and therapist. That led to a job as a case manager at Gonzaga, and finally to Eastern Washington University. There was a certificate in Technical Writing from the University of Washington somewhere in there, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His approach emphasizes empowerment, motivation, and recognizing the value in identifying and communicating emotions effectively. She has been a full-time clinician with Eastern since 2013. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R\u00e1n\u2019s clinical interests include anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, biofeedback and mindfulness. She draws from humanistic, solution-focused, mindfulness and acceptance based approaches to the therapeutic process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She feels deeply honored to journey along-side students, as they navigate life\u2019s many challenges, and is committed to showing-up for and empowering her fellow humans, while staying curious and humble in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R\u00e1n loves hanging out with her family (which includes, her husband, two sons, daughter, and Golden Retriever, Charlie), traveling and being in the outdoors, whether that\u2019s finding new trails to explore, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming in random lakes, gardening, or just watching the clouds float by. Then, after working in the legal profession for nearly twenty years, Jeff went back to school receiving his Master\u2019s of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Washington University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working as a counselor intern at Spokane Community College, Jeff developed an interest in helping college students navigate the myriad life changes and challenges commonly faced by those in pursuit of higher education. Nina takes a humanistic approach to counseling, as person-centered theory is her primary theoretical orientation. However, she is open to incorporating other therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Relational-Cultural Therapy based on each client&#8217;s needs. She supports campus-wide efforts to promote student wellbeing, including health education, basic needs support, financial wellness, substance use prevention, recovery support, and other initiatives that help students thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martha\u2019s background includes public health, education, mental health, recovery, and community wellness. Before joining EWU, she was a faculty member at Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, where she focused on school mental health, recovery-oriented care, health equity, and the wellbeing of under-resourced communities and systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martha is a former secondary English teacher, a public health researcher, and a yoga teacher trained in mindfulness and adaptive approaches to wellness. A U.S. Air Force veteran and graduate of the University of Alaska, he spent his career in the Anchorage School District as a high school economics teacher and held leadership roles including Social Studies Department Chair, Economics Curriculum Committee Co-Chair, Athletic Director, and union president. He also served on the Anchorage Cops for Community Board and as a Public Education Health Trustee. Tom brings strong expertise in personal finance and a passion for student success to his role leading EWU\u2019s Financial Wellness Program. She graduated in 2018 with her Bachelor\u2019s in English Education from Long Beach State.&nbsp; After graduating with her Masters in Education from Gonzaga in 2020, she worked for two years as a language activist and humanities teacher at Salish School of Spokane, the largest off-reservation Language Reclamation program in the contiguous 48 states.
