As summer finally arrives and the days become warmer, the desire to be in the water increases. We want our Eagle family to stay safe this summer and make sure we all take the proper precautions when it comes to water safety!
Swimming tends to be the most popular summer activity no matter your age, so take these precautions seriously!
If you decide to swim at a local pool or waterpark make sure there is always a lifeguard or more than one on duty to watch you and others in case of emergencies. Never swim by yourself, always stick to the buddy system and don’t allow others to swim on their own.
Never leave a young child unattended by any source of water. Children are very capable of falling in and drowning. Always have an eye on children around water and make sure they are always wearing life jackets.
Make sure all swimmers, boaters or loungers are wearing U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets when they are in or near water. Life jackets save lives and are surprisingly very comfortable and stylish.
Do not drink alcohol around any source of water as it can affect your judgment, vision, balance and coordination. When you are around water you should take your well-being and safety very seriously because if not it can end up harming you and others around you.
Finally, whether you decide to swim or you are just around water be very cautious about cold temperature, currents and underwater hazards that can make a fall into the water very dangerous. These types of water include but are not limited to: ocean shorelines, rivers and lakes.
