Recently, a number of EWU employees have discovered that fraudulent unemployment claims have been filed on their behalf. Unfortunately, the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) has seen a dramatic rise in impostor fraud for both private and public employers across the state.
If you believe a fraudulent unemployment compensation claim has been submitted using your identity, and have not already contacted ESD to report the claim, please complete the Fraud Reporting Form or call ESD at 1.800.246.9763 immediately. ESD is receiving a high volume of calls, so they recommend you submit the form.
The ESD website also recommends the additional following actions:
- Go to the FTC identity theft website: identitytheft.gov for great resources on reporting.
- Request your free credit reports via annualcreditreport.com and review them for other fraudulent activities.
- Go to wa.gov/recovering-identity-theft-or-fraud for additional tips from the Washington State Attorney General.
