Choosing Classes
Most students choose courses to take each quarter or semester based on:
You can also take classes to explore fields you’re interested in.
The EWU Catalog has information about academic programs, policies, and services at EWU. You can use it to explore courses, degree programs and requirements, and graduation requirements.
Catalog Years
Major or Minor Requirements
The term you declare your major or minor (your Catalog Term) determines the requirements of that major or minor. When referencing the catalog for major or minor requirements, be sure to select the catalog year when you declared.
General Education Requirements
General Education requirements are based on the term you were admitted to EWU (your Admit Term). When referencing the catalog for general education requirements, be sure to select the catalog year when you were admitted to EWU.
Finding your Admit Term and Catalog Term
If you don't know what your Admit Term or Catalog Term, you can find them in InsideEWU.
- Login to InsideEWU.
- Go to EagleNET.
- Select the Students tab.
- Under Academic Profile in the left column, select the current term from the dropdown.
- This will generate your Academic Profile, which includes your Admit Term and your Catalog Term.
To graduate on time, we recommend students take at least 15 credits per term.
The range of credit hours required to meet full-time status is 12-18 for students who are on financial aid, and 10-18 for students who are paying out of pocket.
The number of credits you’re required to take can vary based on your unique financial aid or scholarship situation. Please consult EWU’s Financial Aid & Scholarships Office if you have questions about the requirements based on your aid package.
Part-time: 0-11 credits
Full-time: 10-18 credits
Full-time (required for financial aid): 12-18 credits
Overload status: 19+ credits
Students who are interested in taking more than 18 credit hours in a quarter or semester must request to overload through their academic or faculty advisor. Credit hours over 18 are not typically covered by financial aid. The additional fee is passed on to the student.
Waitlist Information
If a course has closed and has a waitlist option, you may choose to go on the waitlist for that course section.
Waitlisting for a course indicates that you would like a spot in that course. This does not guarantee you a spot in the course.
You should not put yourself on the waitlist if you have enrolled in another section of the same course. You also should not waitlist for more than one section of the same course.
Waitlists are closed and deleted at the end of the third day of the quarter. All students will be dropped from waitlists at this time.
There are two methods to get on the waitlist for a class.

Registration issues
If you have a registration hold or registration into the course puts you in overload status (over 18 quarter credits), you will not be able to officially register. You will have seven days to resolve the issue before your spot is given to the next person on the waitlist.
Registration holds
See Records & Registration's list of holds.
Students should contact the department responsible for the hold to find out what they need to do to get the hold cleared.
For more information, contact Records and Registration, Sutton 201, 509.359.2321.
Overload status
If registration into the waitlisted course puts you into overload status, you must adjust your schedule to have 18 quarter credits or less. Then you can officially register.
Meeting the full-time credit requirement
If you are on a waitlist for a course, the credits for that course do not count toward your total credits for the quarter. Until you are officially registered for the desired class, you may need to enroll in another course to meet full-time credit requirements and keep your financial aid in place.
If a spot opens in your desired course and you are registered, the credits for your course will be added to your total credits for the quarter.
Overload status
If registration into the course puts you in an overload status (over 18 quarter credits), you will not be able to officially register.
To resolve this, you must adjust your schedule to have 18 quarter credits or less.
You are responsible for officially dropping or withdrawing from any course that you have been waitlisted for or enrolled in and do not wish to take. You are responsible for tuition and fees for all courses you are registered for.
