Navigate Questions
Navigate is used by Students, Student Success Advisors, members of the Eagle Care Network, Faculty, Staff, just about anyone at EWU who wants to.
Nothing. Navigate is a free service for all members of the EWU community. It costs nothing for you to download the Navigate App or use the desktop version.
You can find the links to login to Navigate by visiting the CAAR Main Menu, InsideEWU A-Z services or here:
What term of college are you in? Did you select the wrong term? Go to the More tab, under their name there’s a link to “Update year and term.” If your selection is correct, in-app content might not be available for you yet. You can still use other features, and many of the to-dos for other semesters may still be relevant
Try a hard close and relaunch the app.
- For iOS, double click the Home button then swipe the app preview away to “hard close.”
- On Android, open the app manager view and slide the app preview away to “hard close.”
Holds are updated every 24 hours in Navigate, so check back tomorrow to see if it’s successfully been resolved in Navigate. If the issue persists, contact rgendusa@ewu.edu
In the Settings tab you can personalize your notification preferences. I just resolved a Hold, why is it still showing up? Holds are updated every 24 hours in Navigate, so check back tomorrow to see if it’s successfully been resolved in Navigate.
Student Success Coordinators are training faculty members, if you are interested in getting trained on Navigate please follow up with the Student Success Coordinator associated with your college.
Send a detailed email and/or screenshot of the problem to navigate@ewu.edu You can also click on the help icon in the upper right-hand corner on any Navigate webpage
Only if you click a box allowing a student to view the note.
No, but you will be able to search for students and create email lists.
Please refer to the “Want to write a note in Navigate?” document or the "Creating and Saving an Advising Report" video.
You can regularly use Navigate and input advising notes on students into Navigate. You can also record any interaction you have with a student and suggest that they download the EAB Navigate app
Yes, student reports/notes in Navigate are part of the student’s education record and subject to FERPA.
You can attend the EWU Advising Canvas course for updates and trainings. You can review both video and pdf tutorials on the CAAR website to re-familiarize yourself. Your Student Success Coordinator is also a great point of contact.
Navigate pulls information from Banner, but Navigate doesn’t push information to Banner which poses a security issue.
Unfortunately, non-students do not have access to the app.
There is a desktop website that advisors, staff, and faculty have access to, that can be found on the CAAR website and Inside EWU A-Z services.
Success marker courses are selected by faculty and administration and a student’s performance level in the success marker course can provide an early gauge of future performance in a given major to advisors. If a student does not perform well or does not complete a success marker course within the established credits threshold, a notification is triggered and the advisor can intervene
Assume students can only make an appointment with their assigned advisor and instructors of course they are currently enrolled in. However, if they are wanting to meet with an advisor outside of their major, then they can do so by calling CAAR at 509-359-2345. To make an appointment in Navigate the faculty or advisor must have availability set up within the system.
Report on advising appointment is any information you want to document from the meeting with students which can also include attachments. These reports stay with the student in the platform, therefore when they change majors, their new assigned advisor will be able to view the report on advising appointment, but students cannot see the reports on advising appointment. Creating a report on advising appointment when a student does not have a scheduled appointment will create an appointment in the past which can then be tracked when running reports.
A note on a student is less robust in the data gathering in terms of length of appointment and for what reason they came in, however, can be helpful if you would like the student to be able to see the note from the student view of the platform by a click of a button. You can also make the note only viewable to you, however, remember this is still part of the student’s educational record and bound by FERPA.
